Above you will find a link to the Democratic Party platform that was approved in Pittsburgh last weekend and will be presented to the convention in Denver. The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), of which NiLP is a member, was the only Latino organization to testify before the platform committee hearing in Cleveland. Many of our key themes of the NHLA Latino Public Policy Agenda have been included in the platform, including: favorable language on immigration reform and immigrant rights; English Language learners; self-determination for Puerto Rico; equitable treatment of Puerto Rico for federal programs; children and families; the census; and more. NHLA received very favorable feedback for our participation.

Among the key platform committee members were co-chairs Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona, Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, and Patricia Madrid of New Mexico and former California Speaker Fabian Nuñez. Please pay special attention to pages 15, 36, 39, 44, 46, and 51 of the platform.

Although NHLA is a non-partisan organization, we have not had the same success with the Republican platform committee. The NHLA will, nonetheless, will be in Minneapolis on September 2nd to present this agenda to interested Republicans.
